5th/ 6th Class Orienteering Experience- Recount Writing by Doireann

Today a cartographer called Séan came in to teach us about orienteering. This is a person who studies maps. Séan explained to us how maps work, the simple navigation process involved and how to set your map so that it is facing north. We then had a treasure hunt was which was very fun and my partner was Ellie. We had to use the knowledge Séan gave us to find stamps. Ellie and I took turns stamping and navigating.

I think that after this experience I will find it easier to navigate around cities, towns and villages. Even something as simple as going on an adventure around Curragh Chase in the future, I will find easier. We are very grateful to Mrs. McNamara for organizing this educational, fun way of learning how to read a map.
